Michigan’s unemployment rate continues to decline

LANSING — Michigan’s unemployment rate has continued its downward trend, coming in at 8.3 percent in April, said state Sen. Mike Kowall, chair of the Senate Economic Development Committee.

The recent decline is compared to 8.5 percent in March and 10.5 percent in April 2011, according to data released on Wednesday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.

“Month after month, we continue to see progress being made toward getting Michigan back on the right track as our unemployment rates steadily decline,” said Kowall, R-White Lake. “This is terrific news and I look forward to seeing our unemployment rates continue to drop as our state’s economic engine begins firing on all cylinders and starts revving again.”
