Senate Majority Floor Leader Mike Kowall, R-White Lake, paid tribute to the life and service of U.S. Air Force Capt. Andrew Becker, who died on March 14 when his U-28 aircraft crashed during a training exercise in New Mexico. Kowall and Lt. Gov. Brian Calley welcomed Becker's parents Gary and Stacey Becker, Novi Fire Captain Mark Theisen and Novi Police Officer Bob Manar for the memorial statement during Senate session. During his service, Becker participated in six overseas deployments with the 34th Special Operations Squadron in support of counterterrorism operations.

Sponsored by Kowall, the new law clarifies that the end of a public road next to an inland lake or stream can be limited to only one seasonal dock authorized by the local unit of government. Violators of Public Act 56 of 2012 will be guilty of a misdemeanor that is punishable by a fine of $500.

The new law gives more flexibility to the administration by allowing the state treasurer and the Michigan Film Office to negotiate with those who apply for Michigan Business Tax film tax credits on the amount of the credit they will receive for the remaining months of the program.
